Zapier ChatGPT steps and the OpenAI model shutdowns

Short answer: Zapier has no general help article on retired OpenAI models, and its Send Prompt troubleshooting article still suggests babbage-002, davinci-002 and gpt-3.5-turbo-instruct, which OpenAI shut down on 28 September 2026. Open each Zap with a ChatGPT (OpenAI) step and choose a current model; gpt-4o and gpt-4o-mini snapshots stop on 14 January 2027.

Where the model is set

The model is a field on each ChatGPT (OpenAI) action step, such as Conversation or Send Prompt. Zapier does not export Zaps as a file you can scan, so the check is by hand.

Fix

1. In the Zap list, search for ChatGPT or OpenAI to find every Zap with an OpenAI step.
2. Open each step and note the model. Paste your notes into the scanner to see the shutdown date and replacement for each.
3. Pick a current model in the step and test the step.

Watch out

• Do not use the models the Send Prompt article recommends: all three are already shut down.
• If you move to gpt-6-luna and the step sends temperature, OpenAI says to remove it unless reasoning effort is none.
