Google Cloud Python: non-supported Python version (3.10)

FutureWarning: You are using a non-supported Python version (3.10.12). Google will not post any further updates to google-cloud-storage supporting this Python version. Please upgrade to the latest Python version, or at least Python 3.11, and then update google-cloud-storage.

Short answer: Python 3.10 reached end of life in October 2026, and Google's Python client libraries (google-api-core and everything built on it: google-cloud-storage, bigquery, pubsub, firestore and more) stopped supporting it a week later. The warning is harmless today, but you won't get fixes any more. Move to Python 3.11 or newer.

Why it happens

google-api-core keeps a table of Python versions. For 3.10 the end of life is 2026-10-04 plus a one-week grace period, so from 12 October 2026 every import of a Google Cloud library on 3.10 raises the "non-supported" FutureWarning. Between 4 and 11 October it showed the "past its end of life" variant, and before that the "will stop supporting" one. The package name in the message is whichever library triggered it.

Fix

  1. Check what you run: python --version locally, the base image in your Dockerfile (for example python:3.10-slim), the runtime of Cloud Run functions / App Engine, and your CI matrix.
  2. Move to Python 3.12 or 3.13 (3.11 is the minimum the warning asks for, but it reaches end of life in October 2027).
  3. Recreate the virtual environment on the new version and reinstall: pip install -U -r requirements.txt.
  4. Run your tests: most code moves from 3.10 to 3.12 unchanged; watch for removed modules (distutils, asynchat, imp) and deprecated APIs in your own dependencies.
  5. Cloud Run functions on python310: Google decommissions that runtime on 4 April 2027; set the runtime to python312 or newer and redeploy.
