Does QuickBooks Desktop Payroll report W-2 code TT?
Short answer: Partly. If the payroll setup wizard is told you pay overtime only for hours over 40, QuickBooks Desktop fills in the qualified amount on each paycheck; otherwise, or with several overtime items or rates, you work it out and enter it yourself.

|---|---|
| What it uses | The Payroll Setup wizard adds a Qualified Overtime Tracking payroll item (a company contribution item with that tax tracking type). The "hours over 40 only" answer can be changed under Edit > Preferences > Payroll & Employees > Company Preferences > Qualified OT. |
| Check the amount | Adjust the year-to-date amount on the next paycheck or past paychecks. QuickBooks Team says box 12 can be overridden on each W-2. After filing, Enhanced users prepare and file the W-2c themselves; Assisted users contact Intuit. |
What to watch
- No automatic amount with more than one Qualified Overtime Tracking item, or more than one Overtime Pay item at different rates, on a paycheck (Intuit help article; QuickBooks Team, August 2026).
- Overtime paid with pay types other than the built-in Overtime 1.5x item needs the tracking item added and edited by hand.
- Holiday pay mapped to qualified overtime during setup is tracked as qualified overtime; QuickBooks Team suggests a separate Regular Pay item for holiday pay.
- Intuit's pages don't cover nondiscretionary bonuses or the fluctuating workweek.
Check the number before the W-2 goes out
Export hours and earnings per workweek and run them through the free code TT calculator. It rebuilds the FLSA premium week by week (several rates, bonuses spread back, fluctuating workweek, weeks split by pay date) and runs in your browser. Big gaps usually come from bonuses, double time or state daily overtime.
